SEIU Going to Saacramento

Before dawn on May 20, buses will leave cities across California—including Fresno—carrying caregivers, union members, and supporters to Sacramento. Their destination is the State Capitol. Their message is direct: stop the cuts. Organized by SEIU Local 2015, the statewide action targets proposed healthcare reductions tied to federal budget decisions, including what organizers describe as threats from HR1. At stake, they argue, is Medicaid funding—the backbone of care for seniors, low-income families, and the disabled.

But this is not just about policy. It’s about pressure. v The timing is deliberate. California’s “May Revise” budget update is one of the last opportunities to influence how money is allocated before final decisions are locked in. Showing up in numbers, organizers believe, can shape those outcomes.

The demands are specific: protect Medicaid, preserve overtime and sick days, and block what they call dangerous cuts to essential care. The strategy is just as clear—turn turnout into leverage.

This is not a scattered protest. It is a coordinated push aimed directly at power, where decisions are made and consequences are felt statewide.

On May 20, Sacramento becomes the pressure point.
